Men’s and women’s Thunderbirds get blanked by Golden Hawks

Sunday marked the halfway point of the season for both the Algoma University Thunderbirds men’s and women’s soccer teams as they were in action against the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks at Superior Heights.

The women’s Thunderbirds, who were in action at 1:00 p.m. at Superior Heights, dropped a 3-0 decision to the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.

Forward Gagan Parhar led the way offensively for the Golden Hawks with a pair of goals while Caroline Tepelenas found the back of the net once.

Golden Hawks goalkeeper Ashley Almeida recorded her second straight shutout while Khadyja Claxton made ten saves in the Thunderbirds loss.

With the loss, the women’s Thunderbirds record has now dropped to 0 wins, 7 losses and 1 tie.

After the women’s Thunderbirds got blanked in the 1:00 p.m. game against Wilfrid Laurier, the men’s Thunderbirds then took to the field at Superior Heights for their 3:00 p.m. game.

The men’s Thunderbirds result was no different than the women’s though, as they also got blanked by a score of 3-0 to the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks at Superior Heights.

Forward Glorious Okpali led the way offensively for the Golden Hawks with a pair of goals while defenceman Ben Cates scored once.

Golden Hawks goalkeeper Jeffrey Omoregie-Sanni recorded his second shutout of the season while Kevin Picard made seven saves in the Thunderbirds loss.

With the loss, the men’s Thunderbirds record has now dropped to 0 wins, 7 losses and 1 tie.

The men’s and women’s Thunderbirds will be back in action Saturday in London to take on the Western Mustangs.
