After getting blanked in back to back meetings against the Waterloo Warriors last weekend in Waterloo, the Algoma University Thunderbirds men’s soccer team was back in action on Saturday afternoon at Superior Heights for their home opener against the Windsor Lancers.
The Thunderbirds, who entered Saturday afternoon’s game with a record of 0 wins and 2 losses, took on a Lancers team that had 2 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie.
The Thunderbirds record fell to 0-3 on the season on Saturday afternoon as they dropped a 3-1 decision to the Lancers at Superior Heights.
Toronto, Ontario native Simon Bobok, who is in his first year with the Thunderbirds, put the home side up 1-0 at the 7:00 mark of the first half.
The Lancers would then tie the game up at the 37:00 mark of the first, courtesy of Kyle Ruggaber’s first goal of the season.
Celso Carapau’s second goal of the season at the 63:00 mark of the game, put the Lancers ahead 2-1.
Stefan Milidrag scored his third goal of the season at the 90:00 mark of the game, making the score 3-1 in favour of the Lancers.
Goalkeeper Shawn Hunter was in net for the Lancers win while Emmanuel Aigbukor made 5 saves in the Thunderbirds loss.
The Thunderbirds will be back in action at Superior Heights on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. for a rematch against the Lancers.
