Summer Ends Today – With Colder Air and Damaging Winds

6

Today is the last full day of Summer, and by this afternoon, you’ll know Fall is settling in.

An intense late Summer / Fall Storm led with a warm front overnight, causing heavy rain and winds, now the cold front will push through today dropping temperatures from a high of 20c (reached this morning) to a low of 4c tonight. Along with the cold air comes some pretty strong winds , prompting Environment Canada to issue a wind warning for the area.

Damaging wind gusts are expected this afternoon.

Strong southwesterly winds with gusts of 70 to 80 km/h are forecast to develop this afternoon and become west to northwest with gusts near 70 km/h this evening. The strongest wind gusts are expected from this afternoon into early this evening. These strong winds are the result of a cold front that will move through the area late in the afternoon or early in the evening.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.
