You can now make it a lucky seven for the Soo Thunderbirds!

After defeating the Rayside Balfour Canadians 3-2 in overtime at the John Rhodes Community Centre on Friday night and improving their record to 6-0, the Soo Thunderbirds were looking to extend their winning streak to seven games on Saturday night as they were in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan for their second meeting of the season against the Soo Eagles.

The Thunderbirds improved their record to 7-0 on Saturday night as they defeated the Soo Eagles by a score of 2-1 at Pullar Stadium.

After a scoreless opening period of play, it would be the Thunderbirds getting on the board first at the 13:53 mark of the second, courtesy of Nick Smith’s fourth goal of the season from Tanner Mayne and Ryan Lawrence.

Forward Lucas Theriault, who was coming off a three assist performance on Friday night against the Canadians, put the Thunderbirds up 2-0 with his sixth goal of the season at 14:45 from Kaidan McDonald and Noah Boman.

Eagles forward Riley Jensen would score just 33 seconds into the final frame, cutting the Thunderbirds lead to 2-1.

Raf Praysner and Mikey Butcher would pick up the assists on what would be Jensen’s sixth goal of the season.

Eagles goaltender Justin Benedetto gave up 2 goals on 39 shots in the loss while Colin Ahern made 26 saves for the win.

The 7-0 Thunderbirds will now be back at the John Rhodes Community Centre next Saturday to take on the Espanola Express.
