Hayton is back

You can now add another NHL first round pick to the Soo Greyhounds roster!

It was announced on Tuesday that the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes have assigned forward Barrett Hayton back to the red and white.

Hayton, who was drafted by the Coyotes in the 1st round (5th overall) in this year’s NHL Entry Draft, cracked the Coyotes opening night roster, but ended up on the injured reserve with an undisclosed issue.

Last season with the Hounds, the 18 year old scored 21 goals and set up 39 others in 63 regular season contests.

Hayton was also part of a deep roster that saw many forwards graduate, including Boris Katchouk (42g 43a 85p), captain Tim Gettinger (33g 36a 69p), Jack Kopacka (31g 32a 63p), Hayden Verbeek (30g 31a 61p) and Taylor Raddysh (33g 50a 83p).

Raddysh scored 18 goals and 39 points with the Hounds after coming over in a trade with the Erie Otters back on January 6th, 2018.

With the addition of Hayton, the Hounds now have two NHL first round picks on their current roster.

Forward Morgan Frost, who currently leads the Hounds in scoring with 9 points in 7 games, is a 2017 first round pick of the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers.
