After beginning their three-game road trip with a 3-2 in Windsor on Thursday night, followed by a 7-4 win in Kitchener on Friday night, the Soo Greyhounds were looking to make it a perfect road trip on Sunday afternoon as they were in Guelph to take on the Storm.
The Hounds did not pick up a win on Sunday afternoon, but they still picked up five out of a possible six points in their three-game road trip.
After falling behind 3-0 after twenty minutes of play, the Hounds battled back to tie the game at three, before dropping a 4-3 overtime decision to the Guelph Storm at the Sleeman Centre.
San Jose Sharks 2018 first round pick Ryan Merkley scored the overtime winning goal for the Storm just 2:09 into the extra frame.
Cedric Ralph led the way offensively for the Storm with a goal and an assist while Nate Schnarr and Isaac Ratcliffe had a goal each.
Cam Hillis and Barret Kirwin had an assist each for the Storm.
Morgan Frost (power play), Cullen McLean and Ryan Roth had a goal each for the Hounds while Jordan Sambrook, Mac Hollowell, Ryan O’Rourke, Barrett Hayton and Matthew Villalta all had one assist each.
Storm goaltender Anthony Popovich made twenty three saves for the win while Hounds netminder Matthew Villalta gave up four goals on thirty one shots in the loss.
The Hounds will now be back on GFL Memorial Gardens ice on Halloween night for a matchup against the Flint Firebirds at 7:07 p.m.
