You’re only allowed to have three overage players on an OHL team, and the Soo Greyhounds made a move with one of their four overage players this week.
Hounds overage goaltender Tyler Johnson, who was placed on waivers on Monday, has cleared waivers at 4:00 p.m. this afternoon.
Johnson, who came over to the Hounds in a trade with the London Knights back on October 17th, 2017, had 14 wins, 1 loss, 1 shootout loss and 2 shutouts as a member of the red and white during the 2017-2018 season.
His 2.36 goals against average during the 2017-2018 regular season, set the new Soo Greyhounds record for the lowest goals against average during a regular season, passing Hounds current No. 1 goaltender Matthew Villalta, who held the previous record (2.41) back in 2016-2017.
The Amherst, New York native was in net for the Hounds season opener in Saginaw back on September 19th, where he made 38 saves in a 5-2 loss to the Saginaw Spirit at the Dow Event Center.
With the departure of Johnson, Hounds 2017 9th round pick Ethan Taylor will now serve as the team’s No. 2 goaltender.
Heading into Peterborough tomorrow night, the Hounds now have three overage players on their team, including defencemen Mac Hollowell and Jordan Sambrook and forward Keeghan Howdeshell.
