On October 9th, 2018 officers with the Patrol Services Division of The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 51 year old Nicholas Pears of no fixed address for possession of a firearm.
Just before 7:00 p.m. officers observed Mr. Pears in the downtown area. Officers knew of an outstanding arrest warrant for the accused. When they stopped to speak to him, he fled on foot. Officers chased the accused and he was apprehended a short distance away.
When the accused was taken into custody, he was found to be in possession of a number of illicit drugs including;
20.55 grams of Cocaine,
8.19 grams of Crystal Methamphetamine,
2.76 grams of Fentanyl Powder
The total street value of the drugs is estimated at $5,281.
The accused was also found to be in possession of multiple weapons including a knife that opened with centrifugal force, a sawed off shotgun, ammunition and a set of brass knuckles. He was taken into custody and has been charged with;
3 Counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking,
4 counts of breach of recognizance,
4 counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
3 counts of carrying a concealed weapon,
One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm,
One count of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon,
One count of possession of a firearm knowing it’s possession is unauthorized,
2 counts of possession of a prohibited weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized,
One count of possession of a prohibited firearm, and;
4 counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a court order
He was held for bail court.
