After concluding preseason action with a record of one win and no losses, the Algoma University Thunderbirds men’s basketball team kicked off their 2018-2019 regular season this past weekend as they were in Thunder Bay to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves at CJ Sanders Fieldhouse.
In their opening game of the season on Friday, the Thunderbirds defeated the Thunderwolves by a score of 71-69.
It was also the first time the Thunderbirds won a season opener in their six years of being in the OUA.
Jermaine Lyle led the way offensively for the Thunderbirds with 16 points.
Isaiah Traylor had 20 points for the Thunderwolves.
In their second game against the Thunderwolves on Saturday, the Thunderbirds fell by a score of 90-76.
Nathan Riley led the way offensively for the Thunderbirds with 21 points.
Davarius Wright had 28 points for the Thunderwolves.
The Thunderbirds will be in Toronto on Friday for a matchup against the Varsity Blues.
