Police to Canvass for Video Surveillance Use

Over the next few weeks, offices with The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will be working in partnership with the staff from CrimeStoppers of Sault Ste. Marie and The Algoma District and students from The Justice Studies Program at Sault College to conduct a canvass of businesses in Sault Ste. Marie regarding their use of video surveillance.

The goal of this canvass is to help officers identify areas where video evidence may exist in order to accelerate investigations in the future.

Involvement in this program is completely voluntary.  Any business wishing to take part may sign up with the volunteers and staff when they visit the business or email The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service at securitycanvass@ssmps.org to receive an e-form to sign up.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service believes that by working together with our partners in the community we can help reduce the opportunities for crime.

  1. At least half of the cameras out there are badly dated and don’t have the resolution to be of any use to anyone.
