FIRE SERVICES GENERAL SAFETY MESSAGE TO THE COMMUNITY
SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – October 10, 2018 – Due to recent weather conditions Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services is encouraging all citizens to take precautions, especially while driving.
It is recommended that you stay off roadways at this time due to the high volume of rainfall. Only drive if it is absolutely necessary.
Roadways are flooding and there is a potential for washouts. The following is a list of areas to avoid due to road closures and impassable roadways: Carmen’s Way, The Underpass, and the St. George’s Avenue area.
Residents are reminded to not drive on roadways that are underwater, as the roadways may be unstable and dangerous.
Roadways will continue to be monitored and updates will be provided as required.

Saultonline.com is tracking flooding happening in different places around the city. The city’s central west end appears to be one of the areas hardest hit. The City Board of Works has temporarily closed two thoroughfares due to flooding.
St. Georges Ave West and Wellington Street West is closed at this time.
Sault Fire Services, Sault Police and the City of Sault Ste Marie Board of Works were on scene.
Some basements are flooding in the area of Wellington Street West/St. Georges Ave.
