Women’s Thunderbirds drop 2-1 decision to Badgers

After dropping a 4-1 decision to the York University Lions last Sunday at Superior Heights, the Algoma University Thunderbirds women’s soccer team kicked off their final road trip of the season on Saturday afternoon as they were in St. Catherines to take on the Brock Badgers.

The women’s Thunderbirds record fell to 0-12-1 on Saturday afternoon, as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the Badgers on Saturday afternoon at Varsity Soccer Field.

The Badgers scored twice in the first half, getting goals from Melanie Schouten and Brianne Desa.

Cassandra Stirpe and Samantha Bauer had an assist each for the Badgers.

Bailie Malmloff had the lone goal for Algoma at the 66:00 mark of the game.

Thunderbirds goalkeeper Khadyja Claxton made 7 saves in the loss while Marilena Spagnolo made 2 saves for the Badgers victory.

The women’s Thunderbirds will play their final road game of the season this afternoon in a rematch against the Badgers at Varsity Soccer Field.
