Women’s Thunderbirds finish season with one point


They may have only finished the season with 1 point, but it was still their best season in their five years of being in the OUA.

The Algoma University Thunderbirds women’s soccer team concluded their regular season on Sunday afternoon, finishing off with a record of 0 wins, 15 losses and 1 tie.

On Sunday afternoon, the women’s Thunderbirds played their final game of the 2018 regular season as they lost by a score of 8-0 to the McMaster Marauders at Superior Heights.

Stephanie Roberts led the way offensively for the Marauders with three goals and one assist while Megan Mamela also had big afternoon with three goals of her own.

Jade Smith also had a three point afternoon for the Marauders, scoring once and setting up two others while Faye Stavropoulos scored once.

Amy Jenkins and Cailee Long had an assist each for the Marauders.

Peyton Smith picked up the shutout for the Marauders, making one save.

Thunderbirds goalkeeper Khadyja Claxton made thirteen saves in the loss.

Despite finishing the season in last place, the Thunderbirds only gave up 60 goals against this season.

Their 60 goals against this season, was the least they surrendered in their five years of being in the OUA.

The Thunderbirds picked up their first point in OUA history in their fourth game of the season back on September 9th, when they tied the Windsor Lancers 0-0 at Superior Heights.
