Public Relations Students from Sault College hosted a “Dreamy Unicorn” Children’s event fundraiser at Station Mall on Saturday afternoon.
Activities included Henna Art, face painting and a unicorn-themed colouring competition. This event raised $903.10 – $550 in pre-event sponsorhips, and the rest during the event. All proceeds are in support of the Soup Kitchen Community Centre.
Priya Singh, a PR student and one of the event organizers, told SaultOnline the group chose to help the Soup Kitchen because they wanted to give back to the community.
“Our key message is everyone deserves a meal,” PR student and event organizer Manish Gupta told SaultOnline. “We organized a fundraising event so we can give the money to them and they can provide food for more people.”
Both Singh and Gupta said they think being a part of the community is important to them, as well as getting the opportunity to communicate with people in the community. They both said they think this is also a good way to bring more public awareness to the soup kitchen and potentially get more people involved in helping with it.
“It feels really amazing because you are working for the people,” Singh said. “And you are part of the community and giving back to the community and it’s really feeling proud to all of us, being part of such an event.”
