Destination Northern Ontario (DNO) in partnership with Nature and Outdoor Tourism Ontario (NOTO) are hosting the fifth annual Northern Ontario Tourism Summit in Sault Ste. Marie.
The series of events are taking place at Quattro from November 13th to 15th.
It is providing the opportunity for operators, tourism organizations, municipalities, all levels of government and those who support or are involved in the Northern Ontario tourism industry to network and grow opportunities.
A series of workshops are taking place surrounding product development, health and safety training, working with travel media, funding and financing guidance, and much more.
On the 14th, participants will have the opportunity to hear from Keynote Speaker, Strategy Expert and Tenured Professor Nick Bitontis, the world’s leading expert on intellectual capital and its impact on performance. On the 15th, Dr. Don Drummond, Former Senior Vice President and Chief Economist, TD Bank Financial Group, will speak on the Canadian economy and its prospects.
The Summit also played host to newly appointed Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Michael Tibollo. He said he is impressed with our local partners in the tourism industry in the north. He also expressed that the Ontario government is working on a new Ontario Tourism Strategy for 2019, which he hopes will act as a roadmap for success in building and sustaining tourism in our region. Consultations are expected to begin within the coming months.
Throughout the week of conferences, DNO and the Algoma Kinniwabi Travel Association have both had their annual general meeting, and NOTO is slated to have theirs on Thursday.
