Every fall, CBC Music and MusiCounts, the charity of the Juno Awards, launch the Canadian Music Class Challenge to engage music classes across the country.
The goals are threefold; to help kids learn Canadian music in the classroom, to draw attention to the exceptional work of music teachers in this country, and to reinforce the importance of music in a well-rounded education.
This year, White Pines C&VS is taking part. Music teacher extraordinaire Hollie Filice has been working with White Pines’ feeder school students rehearsing Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ for submission in the contest.
ONNtv spoke with White Pines Music Teacher Hollie Filice and White Pines student Hannah Rausch about the event, which saw about 300 students participate.
