The dining room at Northwood Funeral Home was full of families excited to see Santa after their pancake breakfast on Sunday morning at the Algoma Autism Foundation’s third annual Breakfast with Santa.
This event allows children with special needs the opportunity to see Santa in a quiet, controlled environment.
Jamie Boston, Director of the Algoma Autism Foundation, said this event is always well received and continues to grow each year. This year, approximately 50 families participated.
“If we didn’t do (this), some families wouldn’t have the opportunity to interact with Santa because it’s just too much for them,” he said. “So we try to give the most typical opportunities to kids that may not otherwise have that opportunity.”
Each year, funds raised from this event are donated to a local charity. All proceeds raised from this year’s event will be donated to Special Olympics.
