On December 20th, 2018 officers with the Crime Suppression Unit and Drug Unit of The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 35 year old Steven Savard of Sudbury Ontario for possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Just before 6:30 p.m. officers observed the accused operating a motor vehicle in the area of Bay Street and Spring Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop and soon after observed a knife and a canister of OC spray in the vehicle.
Officers attempted to arrest the accused and when doing so the accused began to fight with officers. An off duty officer with the Ontario Provincial Police was passing by and stopped to provide assistance. The accused was brought under control and taken into custody.
After his arrest, officers found that the accused was in possession of 18.2 grams of fentanyl powder with a street value of $10,812, and a 12 gauge shotgun that was found in the vehicle.
Mr. Savard has been charged with;
One count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking,
One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm,
One count of possession of a firearm while knowing its possession is unauthorized,
One count of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order; and,
One count of assaulting a peace officer.
He was held for bail court.
