A couple hundred travel writers and media representatives from across the country are gathering in Sault Ste. Marie next year. The community secured the hosting rights for the 2019 National Conference of the Travel Media Association of Canada (TMAC). It’s taking place from June 16 to June 22.
TMAC is a not-for-profit agency serving industry and media travel professionals. Its annual conference attracts members from across Canada and features educational workshops, networking sessions and site tours in the host community.
For the 2019 forum in Sault Ste. Marie, a number of local venues are being used, including the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre, Machine Shop, Delta Hotels by Marriot Sault Ste. Marie Waterfront, and Quality Inn & Suites Bay Front.
The 2019 TMAC National Conference was secured by Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, a division of the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation. This past summer, the organization successfully bid on the seven-day event. Not only will it inject nearly $250,000 of direct visitor spending into the local economy, the forum also provides an opportunity to showcase area attractions to travel media from across the country.
“The conference is expected to attract 200 travel writers and media reps, which will generate considerable marketing exposure for our community,” said Jennifer King-Callon, Manager of Meetings & Conventions for Tourism Sault Ste. Marie. “We look forward to showcasing area attractions like Agawa Canyon Tour Train, which was recently named a Canadian Signature Experience, along with the Great Lakes, provincial parks, lodges and other area venues. This is a great opportunity for our community.”
