UPDATE Chartwell Drive Homicide – First Degree Murder Charge Laid

Officers with the Investigation Services Division of The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are continuing the investigation into the November 12th incident that lead to the arrest of 22 year old Mathew L’Heureux of Chartwell Drive for second degree murder.

As a result of the investigation, officers have now laid a charge of first degree murder against Mr. L’Heureux.  As the investigation is still ongoing, no further information can be released at this time.  Mr. L’Heureux continues to be held in custody.

On November 12th, 2018 officers with the Patrol Services Division of The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a call for service in the 100 block of Chartwell Drive.

Officers with the Investigation Services Division of The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service were contacted to continue the investigation and as a result officers arrested 22 year old Mathew L’Heureux of Chartwell Drive for Second Degree Murder.  It has been determined that the victim and the accused were both known to each other and the incident was not a random act.

The accused appeared in Bail Court today and has been remanded into custody.

Officers with the Investigation Services Division of The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are continuing the investigation however no further information can be released at this time.  At the request of the victim’s family, the name of the deceased will not be released.

  1. But..he got out…after judge ordered and said he needed a psychological assessment done..so why why why would you let him out? He should have been transferred to the facility…and if there was no time for him to be transferre because of red tape and budget…then he should have stayed in jail until they could do it….maybe there’s more that we obviously don’t know in fairness to the juditional system😑

  2. It takes an awfully messed up individual to murder their own mother.
    I hope they put him away for a long, long time so there is no chance of him murdering anyone else. Three days before he killed his Mom he had been convicted of theft and assault with a weapon, offences involving one woman, and threatening to kill another one.
