The coldest air so far this winter will leave many wanting to put an extra log on the fire this weekend.
The cold air is thanks to a push of arctic air sinking over the province starting this afternoon and lasting right through the weekend. Temperatures are expected to fall Friday evening to a very cold -27c , when adding in the wind it will feel like closer to -36c
It gets colder Saturday and Sunday with daytime highs only reaching -19c – though we should see plenty of sun.
The cold air is also one of the major ingredients for a major winter storm that will impact southern Ontario this weekend, along with cold air the southern parts of the province is preparing for a major snow event that could leave as much as 30 plus cm in the greater Toronto area.
Environment Canada has not issued an extreme cold warning as of yet, but they do warn of frost bite to exposed skin in as little as just a few minutes. It’s also advised to bring your pets in during the cold weather, or make sure your dog has an insulated dog house to keep warm.
The cold air will move out early Monday, but then the warmer air will help fuel snow showers for most of next week…
