SSMPS Update 7:46 am – Queen Street East CLOSED Due to Active Fire

At approximately 5:15 a.m. officers with The Sault Ste Marie Police Service and firefighters with Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services responded to a large fire at 224 Queen Street East between Dennis Street and Bruce Street.

The fire fully engulfed the building and is not yet under control.  The 200 block of Queen Street East is closed and we ask motorists and pedestrians to stay away from the area in order to allow crews with Fire Services to safely bring the fire under control.

At this time no injuries have been reported and more information will be released when it becomes available.


BREAKING STORY

Sault Fire Services is currently on scene at a huge fire downtown. Parts of Queen Street are closed near Bruce Street.

The fire, across from the GFL Memorial Gardens involves one or perhaps two separate businesses. A SaultOnline viewer reports on our Facebook page that Sault Police Services assisted with evacuating the building.

    • Looks like the apartment just west of Memoirs.. memoirs may be the second building thats on fire. Its the apartment above William R Scott Law Offices that most of the smoke is coming from. I hope everyone made it out.

  1. 224 Queen Street seems to be the building, drove by this morning while it was fully engulfed. Looks like a total loss, unfortunately.
