Historian Dr. James Daschuk to Speak at Algoma University


Dr. James Daschuk, historian and Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies at the University of Regina, will present a special public lecture at Algoma University Thursday evening.

Daschuk , who authored the award winning “Clearing the Plains: Disease, Politics of Starvation, and the Loss of Indigenous Life”, will speak about “Statue Wars: History, Identity, and the Politics of Commemoration in Post-Canada.”

The lecture takes place in the Shingwauk Auditorium at 7:30pm January 17th. The event is co-sponsored by  Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre,  Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig, and the English & History Department at Algoma University is free and open to the public.
