Register Now for Big Brothers Big Sisters Local Legends Ball Hockey Tournament

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Local Legends Ball Hockey Tournament is scheduled for
Saturday February 2nd, 2019 as part of the Bon Soo Winter Festival. The Ball Hockey
Tournament has successfully raised more than $25,000 for local charities dating back to
its inaugural season in 2011.

“We started a tournament back in 2011 and did it for 2 years then we stopped because
life gets busy sometimes. But we wanted to revive it again last year and we were
successful in securing a big sponsor and raising almost $10,000 in funds for Big
Brothers Big Sisters.” said Tournament Founder and Event Coordinator, James
Boynton. Team’s will be playing for the right to hoist the Soo Ball Hockey Cup (shown
in photo) and of course bragging rights.

The ball hockey tournament is open to everyone over the age of 18 years. The
tournament will once again be played on Gore Street in conjunction with the
Neighborhood Resource Centre’s block party which is all part of the Bon Soo Winter

“Team registration has begun and we’re looking to get all 12 spots filled for the
tournament. If we get more teams we can definitely adjust to allow for more teams to
join.” said Steven McCoy, Event Organizer.

Each player is being asked to raise a minimum of $50 in pledges for Big Brothers Big
Sisters of Sault Ste. Marie in place of an entry fee and one hundred percent of the team
pledges will be donated to BBBS-SSM. Fantastic prizes will be awarded to the teams
and individuals who raise the most pledges for BBBS-SSM as well as the teams that
finish first and second overall.

The tournament is open to twelve teams consisting of a maximum ten players per team.
The game format will be four versus four, including goaltenders. Each team will be
guaranteed a minimum of three games and teams must supply their own goaltender
and equipment. Team jerseys are encouraged.
