The 2018/19 swim season is underway for the Soo Y Dolphins with their first two swim meets completed as they head into their Christmas break.
December 1st brought them to the Gaylord Winter Invitational in Gaylord, Michigan where nineteen swimmers took part! It was the first ever meet for the club’s youngest swimmer, Riley McDonough, age 6, as well as for newcomers Rhen Richards, Hope Richards and Waylon Richards. Many swimmers broke personal best records and several swimmers posted times qualifying them for the MTSL (Michigan Team Swim League) Championships which will take place at the end of February.
Congratulations to Robin Moody as the top point getter for the club with 60 points for three first place finishes in her races: 25 Free, 50 Free, and 25 Breast. Other top finishers were Olivia Frost, Andee and Surrey Prescott with 57 points in their respective three events. Coach Christine Prescott was pleased with the club’s performance overall as well as each swimmer’s individual accomplishments. Veronica Allard, Kaylie Frost, Jack Wuerdemann, Mya and Fraser Moody had very strong performances. Other swimmers who swam well were Duncan and Danica Rivera, Alston and Rhen Richards, Gavin Rouleau, Liam Spacek and Teyah Sullivan.
On December 8th, ten members of the team traveled to Saginaw, Michigan to compete in the Midland Dolphins Invitational swim meet. The team faced tough competition from both the North and South side of the league. Our swimmers did well with several adding additional MTSL qualifying times. In particular, Fraser Moody qualified for the League Championship meet for the first time in his 50 Free, making the Moody family 3/3 qualifying! Other swimmers adding additional qualifying times included Veronica Allard for a total of 6, Olivia Frost with 6 now as well, Mya Moody with 6, and Robin Moody with 5 swims to choose from.
Being at the halfway point of the season, the Team has more than 50% qualified for the end of the season meet held in Saginaw at SVSU, including Andee and Surrey Prescott and Alston Richards with several others very close. Additionally, Andee and Surrey Prescott have qualifying times for the Junior Olympics at the end of February in Grand Rapids.
Top finishers at the Midland Dolphins Invitational included Olivia Frost with 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze, Robin Moody with 3 Bronze, Duncan Rivera with 2 5th place finishes and Jack Wuerdemann with 4/4 top 6 placings.
Getting back in the pool for the new year, the Team completes in Rudyard, Michigan on January 12, 2019. Coach Anna and Coach Christine are both looking forward to many more exciting upcoming results and are very pleased with the progress our young Team is making this season!
