You have most likely seen one of these bikes around the Sault at one point or another and thought to yourself, why would anyone need a bike with such oversized tires? Well here’s your chance to find out first hand!
A new event to the Bon Soo Winter Carnival this year, Fat Biking with Mr. Bon Soo. The Sault Cycling Club will be at Bellevue Park on Sunday, February 10th from 12 pm to 3 pm where anyone who is interested is invited to give this relatively new sport a try.
Those big tires provide some impressive float and traction on snow, not to mention simply being a ton of fun to ride! They will have two tracks set, one for beginners looking to try a fat bike for the first time and another for more experienced riders to test their skills. Demo bikes will be available.
The Fat Biking fun doesn’t end here though. Hiawatha Highlands has started a new pilot project this year opening up the Crystal trail system to snow biking with a number of local bike vendors even offering rentals. For more information and trail conditions, you can check out the Hiawatha Highlands website here: http://hiawathahighlands.com/fat-bike-info/.
