SAULT STE MARIE, Ont.– Ontario’s top biathlete teams are in Sault Ste Marie this weekend to compete for the top spots at the 2019 Cadet Biathlon Provincial Championship. Races kick off Saturday with the Team Relay competition.
The 85 young sharp-shooters taking part in this weekend’s competition are 12-18 year old members of the Sea, Army, and Air Cadet Programs.
A seemingly unlikely combination, the sport of biathlon combines the intensity of cross-country skiing with the precision and calm of marksmanship. This third stage of the Canadian Cadet Movement Biathlon Championship Series (CCMBCS) will identify the top 18 athletes who will form Team Ontario to compete at the National Championships at the Broockvale Nordic Centre, PEI. 04 to 10th of March.
When: Saturday, February 09, 2014 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. for relay races.
Sunday, February 10, 2014 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for Team spirit competition races.
Where: Algoma Rod & Gun Club Biathlon Range, 226 Connor Road, Sault Ste Marie.
What: This Olympic-style competition will consist of both local and visiting athlete’s cross-country skiing 1-2 km loops through the challenging terrain of Sault Ste Marie and shooting .22-calibre rifles at falling-plate targets in the range stadium.
