A feature film starring the actor from movies such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and the Lord of the Rings trilogy is set to start shooting here in the Sault starting this Monday.

Welsh character actor John Rhys-Davies is starring in Tainted, a story about a former mob bully whose neighbour’s son is targeted by the killers he previously worked with.

This will be the second film that Gearshift Films, a production company based in Toronto, has filmed in the Sault and the fourth for their Line Producer Borga Dorter.

The Production company is seeking a noise bylaw exemption during Monday evenings council meeting, for various scenes (especially for scenes involving gunfire) that will be filmed within the Sault between Feb. 25 – March 15.

The locations these scenes will take place are:

March 4–Noon to 8:00 pm – Purvis Marine (1 Pim Street) Exterior
March 7–5:30 pm to 5:30 am – Boniferro Mill Works (45 Third Line West) Interior
March 8–5:30 pm to 5:30 am – Boniferro Mill Works (45 Third Line West) Interior
March 12 –3:30 pm to midnight – Gates College (138 East Street) Interior
March 15–1:30 pm to 6:00pm – Sault Multimodal Exterior (530 Cathcart Street) Exterior

Gearshift has already obtained permissions from property owners for filming and special effects at said locations.

Firearms wrangler Stefano Beninati “will be handling the guns when they are not filming,” says City Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Community Development and Enterprise Services Tom Vair in a report to the Mayor and Councilors. “The guns will only be loaded with blanks. No ammunition will be fired.

“The City of Sault Ste. Marie Police Service will be notified in advance of the gunfire scenes, locations, dates and times. The production team will be notifying all neighbouring residences and businesses three days in advance of the filming.”

Jennifer Mathewson, FutureSSM’s film, television and digital media coordinator, will work with the production crew to ensure proper protocols are adhered to during the firing scenes.

  1. I’d love to be a walk on extra, in this Movie. My chocolate Lab would like cruising through a set too. Lol. I was in the locally filmed SWEARNET also.

What a fitting locale to film that.
Lots of people here to give tips from their experience. Lol

  4. Yo, the headline could really use work, I read the headliner, & then thought the actor was shot and killed here, in the Sault, & felt alarmed.
Bravo to the filming in town though.
