Male Driver Wrongly Named


(CHAPLEAU, ON) – On January 24, 2019, at approximately 3:35 p.m., members of the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint regarding a pickup truck that had driven by a school bus with its overhead red signal-lights flashing and the “STOP” arm extended, on Highway 129 in the town of Chapleau, Ontario.

The name, Joel LEMIEUX, released to the media on January 29, 2019, as charged with “Fail to stop for school bus – owner”, contrary to section 175(19) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) was inaccurate. Joel LEMIEUX was wrongly named and has no connection to this incident.

On February 1, 2019, officers received new information regarding this incident. As a result of this information, Adam GAUTHIER, an 18-year-old male from Chapleau, Ontario, has been charged with the following:

Fail to stop for school bus – meeting, contrary to section 175(11) of the HTA.
