Skills Ontario hosts Trades & Tech Day for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Students in Sault Ste. Marie

Skills Ontario will be hosting a Trades & Tech Day at Sault College on February 12, 2019. This event is an opportunity for Indigenous youth to meet and network with community members who have chosen a career in the skilled trades and technologies. Youth explore their interests and career options through hands-on activities.

This event is sponsored by the Government of Ontario, Union Gas, Sault College, and Mamaweswen, The North Shore Tribal Council. Trades & Tech Days are where Skills Ontario brings career-focused information on skilled trades and technologies and encourages Indigenous youth to consider the 156+ skilled trades and technologies when planning for the future. Mentors discuss their journeys in their career paths, and Indigenous youth get the opportunity to ask questions and learn about opportunities.

“Skills Ontario First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Initiatives aims to continue increasing the involvement of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit youth, and to spark their interest in skilled trades and technology professions,” says Myles Linklater, Program Lead for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Initiatives at Skills Ontario. “As more youth consider viable career options for themselves, they are able to contribute to economic and social wellbeing not only within their communities, but also for the broader province of Ontario.”
