Two Males Charged with Possession of Stolen Property
On March 12th, 2019 officers with the Break and Enter unit of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service arrested 34 year old Brian Gough and 51 year old Darin Layden, both of Wellington Street East, for possession of stolen property.
It’s alleged on February 27th, 2019 the two accused pawned two items for approximately $120.00. Police later learned those items were stolen from a business in the 0-100 block of Pim Street on February 27th, 2019. They were located on March 12th and taken into custody.
Mr. Gough is charged with one count of possession of stolen property and one count of breach of probation. Mr. Layden is charged with one count of possession of stolen property. Both were released with a promise to appear in court.
Male Arrested for Fraud Under $5000.00
On March 12th, 2019 officers with the Break and Enter and Crime Suppression Units arrested 48 year old Wayne Hewitt of Boston Avenue with fraud under $5000.00.
It’s alleged in August, 2018 the accused stole a cheque book out of a vehicle. It’s further alleged between November 15th and 16th, 2018 he cashed stolen cheques totaling approximately $900.00.
The accused was subject to an outstanding warrant and was observed in the downtown area by police. He was taken into custody and is charged with one count of fraud under $5000.00, one count of possession of stolen property, one count of uttering a forged document, one count of breach of probation. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 15th, 2019.
