Every seat was full at Catherine’s Hairstyling and Barbershop on Saturday for their 12th annual Cuts for a Cause event.
This event, which raises money for various organizations through haircuts, has been going on for as long as the barbershop has been in business- 12 years.
“I’ve always felt like the community gives to me 365 days of the year, so giving back one day isn’t exactly going to break me,” barbershop owner Catherine O’Donnell told SaultOnline, explaining why she does this. “I think that our community needs it, and this is an easy way for me to give back and help out our community without breaking my budget.”
All proceeds raised during this event go to the organization of choice that year – The ALS Foundation, The Kidney Foundation and the Humane Society have been a few of this cause’s past recipients. This year, the organization of choice is ARCH – which received $2522 from this year’s event.
“We try and choose whatever’s in need, as long as the proceeds that we make stay local,” O’Donnell said. “That’s what I tend to go for – something that stays local and helps our community.”
She said doing this is an important way to support each other and the community.
“Everybody needs a little help every once in a while.”
