High School Students Weld for Chance at Provincial Competition

Eight high school students from the Algoma District School Board’s Manufacturing and Welding Classes competed Wednesday for the opportunity to represent the Algoma region at the Skills Ontario Provincial Welding Competition in North Bay. This hands-on competition was held at the United Association of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 800 Union Hall.
Students demonstrated their skills by performing multi-process welding on pipe and plate which were evaluated by Local 800’s professional welders. During the afternoon, the students were mentored by the professionals and learn about advanced welding techniques and processes.
