The Flying Dutchman Would Love 2 Tour Canada

3

His name is Adrian Vandenberg, and I was able to finally score the touchdown. The only thing that separated us from having a live fireside chat was the ping on Adrian’s phone.

Yes, the Flying Dutchman is an accurate description of one on Rocks’ all-time inspirational guitar players and he does reside full time in Holland.

After the initial silence of an interview request and my careful polite persistence, I knew I was finally going to get my access directly with the man himself.

I was, however a bit confused, as to how this was going to work, but Adrian’s’ PR leader Lisa, came back with ” yes, Adrian would be happy to let you interview him, can you please send a list of your questions?”

At this point, I will have to admit, there would be a few moments of pause; yes I was super grateful for this opportunity………….and if you know me, you would know that the ex Vandenberg and Whitesnake guitar player is neck and guitar neck with my all time favourites.

Now, Randy Rhoads (RIP) is obviously NOT a possibility, but Adrian V is as much alive as you all are……………and I was this close.!!!!!

I had to do some damage control and get a lead for the authentic interview, and outside of persisting on a person to person phone call and blowing the whole damn thing, I settled on a sneaky way and this is what I did.

Well, it’s not sneaky at all; I asked Lisa for Adrian to pose with a coffee mug as if this could be sent over……….there would be no way in hell to say it was photoshopped and I yanked off of the Web.

Well, a couple of days later, I received the confirmation email with 2 attachments; the first was Adrian holding up the coffee cup in his living room (I assume), in front of one of his amazing paintings, and the second one was not what I was expecting.

Below is Adrian Vandenberg and his fireside chat with Canada, and yours’ truly.

What made this piece of work, heartfelt and warm, was the fact (and you’ll hear), that he seems to be one of the most humble people I have ever spoken with.

A guy of this calibre doesn’t need the praise or press from the other side of the world as I am sure he gets many many many requests per week from his own neighbourhood.

In case, you are wondering about how influential this man was in the ’80s, and now, ……….Here I Go Again, by Whitesnake is in the setlist for last night’s Rock of Ages show at the GFL Memorial Gardens, and guess who is responsible for that all-time great solo….you guessed it.

Outside of being the guitar voice behind Burning Love, How Long,  and many other Vandenberg tunes, Adrian and Vandenberg’s Moonkings have just released their third album Rugged and Unplugged….check it out !! The band is totally tight and …………well, just check it out; I promised myself to let Adrian talk to and he’ll explain the MK’s as well.
