Students from across the district with an enthusiasm for science will participate in the 32nd annual Rotary Science Fair Algoma presented by Tenaris April 4th to 6th in the George Leach Centre at Algoma University. The exhibits are open to the public tomorrow, April 5th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 6th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony.
Students will compete for prizes and awards with the overall top two projects representing the Algoma Region at the Canada Wide Science Fair in Fredericton, New Brunswick May 11th – May 17th, 2019 where they will compete with students from across the country.
“Competing in Canada Wide Science Fair has opened my eyes to the variety and diversity in fields of STEM that can be studied and pursued as a career,” shared Julie, who found that competing gave her, “a better understanding and appreciation for the amount of knowledge and time that it takes to conduct a well researched and thorough project.”
According to Raili, “this event and the interest in Science helps the community grow and advance, the more young people interested in Science and innovation, the stronger the drive to advance and improve our community”.
When asked to give this year’s competitors some good advice, Julie’s words of encouragement were “to learn from the judge’s comments, and keep expanding your research, as there will always be things to improve and learn about the subject”.
