Algoma Repertory Theatre (ART) is excited to announce their 2nd dinner theatre production in their inaugural season – Ariel Dorfman’s play, Death and the Maiden. Performances will run from June 5-8, 2019 at the Grand Gardens Downtown in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
This time around, Marc Beaudette will take the seat of Director. Marc is a diversified artist with experience in the Director’s chair. He is “excited to be working with such a talented and experienced cast”.
Tim Bass will be playing the role of Gerard. Tim recently won the award for Outstanding Male in a Leading Role at the Quonta Drama Festival (March 2019) for his portrayal of Harry, in the Sault Theatre Workshop entry of Norm Foster’s play, Mending Fences.
Following her recent celebrated performance in Algoma Repertory Theatre’s production of Love Letters, Sandra Forsell, a graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada, is looking forward to returning to the stage. She will play the part of Paulina.
Tim Murphy isn’t slowing down either. Just last week he was the Director for the Musical Comedy Guild of Sault Ste. Marie’s production of Shrek: The Musical. This week, he is stepping out on stage as our 3rd player, performing the role Robert.
“I’ve been thinking about dinner theatre for a while now,” said Beaudette. “Something in the tradition of ‘Pull Chain Theatre’ or ‘Family Life Theatre’. Those two groups gave a lot to this community and we felt we could create something to fill the cultural void they left behind. Great food paired with top notch entertainment. We’ve assembled a dynamic team and are now ready to bring the concept back to the city.”
“Death and the Maiden” – After the fall of a repressive regime, a flat tire brings a stranger into a rural couple’s home. When the wife recognizes the stranger’s voice and mannerisms, the night takes a turn – becoming a quest for truth and justice. But is he who she thinks he is?
The Grand Gardens Downtown (68 Dennis St.) will play host to this and future dinner theatre productions. Tickets are $65 per person and include a delicious 5-course dinner. Come as a single, couple, or fill a full table of 10 – tickets are available now at the Grand Gardens North location, 1324 Great Northern Rd, or online at www.ARTinSSM.com.
