Maple Syrup Festival on St. Joseph Island
For 52 years, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 374 has hosted the Maple Syrup Festival on St. Joseph Island.
The popularity of this spring event that takes places the first two weekends in April is amazing. This year, the first two days of the “All you can eat pancakes and sausages topped with sweet local maple syrup” was attended by one thousand seven hundred and forty seven (1747) customers. Families and friends traveled from all over to satisfy their graving. To name just a few; Pat Cain with her family, M.P. Carol Hughes, Norm Nash and friends from Thessalon and even a baby shower for Rachel VanLandeghem.
Volunteers are the key to ensure the success of the festival. At any time, at least thirty volunteers were flipping pancakes, frying sausages, clearing tables and so many more tasks. The Legion is grateful to the over 100 volunteers who generously give their time to support the Legion Branch 374, St. Joseph Island.
To add to the day, Maple Syrup Producers and many Artisans were on hand to chat with customers and offering their unique products. Tickets for the Branch’s one thousand dollar draw are an much anticipated addition to the annual event.
A fun new twist was added to this year’s festival; “The Face of the Festival Contest”. The Legion is looking for the face of the 2020 Maple Syrup Festival advertising.
