Gas Prices on the Rise Again

29

UPDATE: as of noon today, Petro Canada is still selling for $1.20 / litre

You may have already noticed, but gas prices have shot up again – the second time since the introduction of the carbon tax on April 1st.

On April 1st, prices rose 5 cents a litre due to the new federal carbon tax.Β  This week, prices have gone up 9 cents due to the price of oil in world trading.

But it’s not over yet. Gas Buddy’s Dan McTeague says prices will once again shoot up when stations begin to roll out summer gas replacing winter gas at the pumps. McTeague says motorists can expect another 5 cents a litre when that happens.

Right now, regular unleaded fuel is $128.9 in Sault Ste. Marie , McDougall Energy was first out of the gate rising prices 9 cents on Tuesday. Other stations have now followed suit.

Next week, when stations begin with the summer gas , prices are expected to be in the $1.35 a litre or higher.

  1. I was just across the river to do other things so I filled up also. US$2,79/Gal. Add 20% to equal a Canadian gallon then convert at $1.33 and you’re paying CDN $4.45 for a gallon of US gas. Our gas at $1.29/litre right now converted to a gallon or 4.6 litres is CDN $5.93/gallon. A difference of $$1.48/gallon.
You can thank Terry Sheehan next time you see him.

    • Thanks Spumoni…I knew someone could do the math. I may not be the brightest at math but I am smart enough to cross the bridge and save $1.48 a gallon. After paying out share of taxes we should all feel entitled to spend what is left anywhere we want.

  2. People are dumb and keep paying the price instead of going for a short ride across the bridge, depending on the size of your tank you can save up to $25 per fill up.
I believe in shopping Canadian, BUT, when it comes to gasoline people need to boycott these thieves until they quit their incessant gouging.
Of course McGouger energy is the ringleader of this never ending nightmare of overpricing gasoline, home heating oil and propane.

    • I am not sure if it is worth crossing the bridge. I filled up there recently and it was up to $2.80 a gallon. Maybe the math guys can figure out if we still save considering exchange rate and bridge fare and $2.80 a gallon.

    • Summer blend gasoline contains 1.7 percent more energy than winter blend gas, which is one reason why gas mileage is slightly better in the summer.

It is still no excuse to raise the prices like they do.

  3. We are so gullible it’s sickening we are puppets on the governments strings .
The population has to start boycotting shit and watch the difference πŸ‘ŽπŸ»πŸ‘ŽπŸ»

  4. As far as I am concerned, it is collusion, plain and simple. Watching the price of oil, there is no justification for all these hikes….and yes, I know there are a lot of factors that go into gas prices beside the price of oil. It is no stretch of the imagination to see all the big oil executives getting together in a smokey crowded room with their highballs in easy reach and saying “OK, what new factors can we dream up to con the users? Hmmmmm, summer/winter gas? Good one! Hurricane season coming up? Cool!! Oooo, I’ve got a good one…”

  5. McGouger energy the local monopoly is always the first to raise the prices and last to lower them (if they ever lower them again at all) they will likely just keep going up and up from here as travel season is coming and there is no one to stop the bloody gouging.

  6. I no longer drive, but we paid $1:57 a liter 10 or 12 years ago and we are still all alive… There are a lot of countries where the price of fuel is several times more than we pay and people walk or ride scooters… get used to it, it’s only gonna get worse…

  7. Gas Gouging at it finest that what happened when there is one or two gas company that controls the north .it only going to get worst.be prepared to pay more and more and more .
