MP Terry Sheehan is pleased to announce that FedNor will invest $150, 000 in the Agawa Tour Train.  This important investment in the world-renowned tourist attraction will be used to modernize the technology on the train, by adding High Definition monitors, external cameras and on-board Wi-Fi thus creating an even better experience.

“We know tourism and economic growth go hand-in-hand, and the results of investing in, and promoting tourism means supporting local businesses, which in turn continues to foster economic growth for everyone.” – Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament Riding of Sault Ste. Marie

“With this FedNor investment, we’re able to bolster and grow the local tourism sector,” said Kevin Wyer, Chair of Tourism Sault Ste. Marie, a division of the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation. “The Agawa Canyon Tour Train is our community’s main visitor draw for the summer and fall seasons. Growing ridership on the attraction is a key priority for us, and we look forward to facilitating these on-board enhancements, which will help us draw more passengers and more visitors to Sault Ste. Marie.” said Kevin Wyer, Chair of Tourism Sault Ste. Marie

Dan Hollingsworth, Executive Director of the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation stated, “We’re working to enhance and grow the Agawa Canyon Tour Train, our community’s No. 1 travel generator. With additional on-board technology, passengers will be provided with a more interactive and well-rounded experience. Tourism is a key sector for our community, and this train tour enhancement project will help our organization market the attraction, draw more visitors and grow the local tourism industry.”

The federal government remains committed to tourism in Northern Ontario, with increased funding in Budget 2019 for FedNor of $5.5 million dollars for the creation of a Canadian Experiences fund which supports Canadian business and organizations seeking to create and expand tourism.

Since 2016 the Federal government has increased FedNor funding by over $60 million to support various economic development initiatives.
