Bondar Achieves the Highest Level

Sault Ste. Marie native Roberta Bondar enjoyed a very special Wednesday in Ottawa.

Bondar was elevated from Officer in the Order of Canada, to the highest level which is Companion in the Order of Canada at at Rideau Hall.

Following her pioneering spaceflight, Bondar remained active in international space medicine, notably leading a research team at NASA that drew connections between astronauts’ recovery from microgravity and neurological illnesses on Earth. A world-acclaimed photographer, she has demonstrated commitment to environmental sustainability through her stunning works that reconnect people to our natural world. Leading by example with the establishment of her eponymous foundation, she is a champion of education and the environment.
