James Street Incident: Three in Custody, One Wanted for Attempted Murder

On May 16th, 2019 officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service responded to a call for service in relation to an incident in the 100 block of James Street.

During the mid-morning hours of May 16th, 2019 three accused and a fourth suspect entered a residence of a person known to them in the 100 block of James Street. Once inside the victim was attacked and is now in hospital with life threatening injuries.

As a result of the ongoing investigation officers arrested 37 year old Sarah Mergaert of James Street, 34 year old Jarrett Jocko of Andrew Street and 29 year old Gilbert Ryan Wilson of Gilles Street. All of the accused are charged with the following;

Attempted Murder

Assault with a Weapon

Weapons Dangerous

Unlawfully in a Dwelling

Members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are actively looking for a fourth suspect, 29 year old James Bolan. He is wanted for attempted murder, assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous and unlawfully in a dwelling.

Mr. Bolan is considered dangerous and police urge the public not to approach him. If you see him, police ask the public to please call 911 immediately.

All three of the accused were held for bail court.


  1. There was no threat to public safety as they targeted the individual, it’s not like they just happened to find an unlocked door and proceeded to beat a random person to a pulp…The name that should be released is that of the victim so nobody lets him babysit!

  2. Old school justice prevailed…Loser got beat for messing with kids…Don’t be so quick to pass judgement!
