Then come and check out the annual Sault Ste. Marie Kennel Club dog show at the Community First Curling Centre, 124 Anita Boulevard!
On May 18 to 20th, Sault Ste. Marie will once again play host to over 150 different dogs and their handlers as they compete in Conformation, Obedience and Rally Obedience. In the Conformation rings, purebred dogs are evaluated according to their Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) breed standards to determine which dog is the best example of their breed. In addition to health tests and temperament evaluations, responsible CKC breeders use Conformation shows and performance events to evaluate their breeding stock and the success of their breeding programs.
In the Obedience and Rally Obedience rings you will see a variety of dog and handler teams showing off their hard work and dedicated training. Unlike the Conformation shows, which are only open to purebred dogs, the performance events like Obedience and Rally are open to mixed breed dogs as well! Training your dog for performance events helps engage their minds and bodies, builds the bond between dog and trainer, and it’s just plain FUN.
This is a great opportunity to see different breeds of dogs, talk to breed experts and find out more about what you can do with your dog. Sault Ste. Marie Kennel Club members are more than happy to answer any questions you might have!
The Sault Ste. Marie Kennel Club is dedicated to promoting Responsible Dog Ownership and providing education to the general public with multiple public events through the year and our Dogs on the Go event teams. We offer classes for puppies (basic manners), beginner obedience (foundations for clicker training), intermediate obedience (so you can walk your dog without being embarrassed), and advanced obedience (so you can brag about how awesome your dog is). We also offer classes in Rally Obedience, Competitive Obedience, Agility, Conformation handling, and preparation classes for the Canine Good Neighbour certification. Our Agility classes are in high demand and we have a number of members competing very successfully at Agility trials in Canada and the USA!
The Sault Ste. Marie Kennel Club is a non-profit CKC sanctioned club located at 76 4th Line West or you can find us online at www.ssmkc.com. Our members have both purebred and mixed breed dogs and have a variety of interests from Conformation shows and breeding to training and competing in Obedience, RallyO and Agility to just having fun and enjoying our dogs.
