Local swimmer commits to NCAA

Paige Banton has made her verbal commitment to Marshall Univerity in West Virginia, a Division I school in the NCAA. Banton has devoted countless hours to her sport over the past several years, and the opportunity to swim for the Herd was too good to pass up. Marshall University, known for its depiction in the film We Are Marshall, is glad to acquire a breaststroke and individual medley specialist heading into the 2019/2020 season.

“I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to Marshall University where I can study biology and continue to do what I love – SWIMMING. I am very excited to work with my new coach and this amazing group of girls that welcomed me to the team during my visit. From that time on, I just knew that if I chose Marshall I would make memories that would last a lifetime.”

Banton currently swims for Sault Surge Aquatic Team under Head Coach Sarah MacDonald. Swimming is a big part of her life – her mom has been a coach with Surge for a number of years, and she trains with her younger brother. After her final year of high school, Banton will make the trip to Huntington, West Virginia to join a new swimming family led by Head Coach Ian Walsh.
