Promote your business’ skilled trades and science and tech opportunities at the 1st Annual Provincial Student Committee Career Fair
Across the province and specifically in Northern Ontario, communities are struggling to find a solution to fill current and future jobs in the skilled trades and science and technology fields. For over a generation, students of all ages have been taught that obtaining a University degree is the best and often only way to find a career that will provide them a happy, healthy, and stable life. As a result, a stigma towards obtaining a careers in the skilled trades has become rooted within our communities. With many individuals currently in the skilled trades set to retire in the near future, a challenge exists to not only fill these positions, but erase the stigma against the skilled trades in its entirety.
Where others see a challenge, Sault Ste. Marie sees opportunity. We see an opportunity to; educate the youth of today for the jobs of tomorrow, to connect our youth with employers, to create a new generation of highly skilled and specialized workers, and to once and for all end the stigma against the skilled trades. In order for this opportunity to be realized, it needs to start with creating a local and regional approach for student recruitment at Sault Ste. Marie’s post-secondary institutions and providing for programs today that can be geared towards filling the careers of tomorrow.
On May 30, 2019, Sault Ste. Marie will take its first step in realizing this opportunity. The Provincial Student Committee Job Fair, held in cooperation with the Algoma District School Board (ADSB) and the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (H-SCDSB), invite all local businesses and agencies to be a part of the First Annual Job Fair, and provide our youth with the opportunity to become educated and aware of the potential careers that exist within our community.
