In March, a group of students and some staff members attended a Relay for Life conference where they were given training and guidance on running a relay event. From there, students were chosen to lead the various committees (Entertainment, Marketing, Logistics, Opening Ceremonies, Finance, Participation, Recruitment, & Sponsorship). Each student leader was paired with a Teacher Advisor. Preparations began with weekly meetings leading up to the kick off rally and meetings continued weekly to plan for the day of the event.
On April 16, the school had the kick off rally with the whole school to explain what Relay for Life is, where the funds raised go, how to register and what the event day will look like. One of the teachers, Andrea Stone-Pietramale, is currently going through cancer treatment and was the guest speaker at the rally. Additionally, there are other staff members who have gone through treatment as well.
They have an upcoming fundraiser organized for June 4 at the school. Superior Heights has partnered up with The Creative Nest Studio to host a wood sign painting night. Money from this fundraiser will be going towards the event.
The school invite you to come their event day, June 13. Opening ceremonies will begin the event at 12pm with a team lap between 1230 & 1pm. M&Ms will be providing dinner for student and staff participants between 430 & 630. Events will be running all day/night. Furthermore, they will be having a Survivors Lap at 7pm and the iconic Luminary Ceremony at 1030pm.
