CN train derails in tunnel between Ontario and Michigan; no injuries reported

SARNIA, Ont. — A CN freight train has derailed inside an international tunnel linking Sarnia, Ont., and Port Huron, Mich., the rail company said Friday.

Roughly 40 cars — at least one carrying dangerous goods — are reported to have come off the tracks in “various positions,” it said.

No fires or injuries have been reported, CN said.

The cause of the derailment remains under investigation and the company said it is working with officials in both municipalities.

It was not immediately clear when the tunnel would reopen.

The Transportation Safety Board said it is sending a team of investigators to the site and will assess the incident.
