We are sad to announce the passing of Phyllis Amy Duffin on July 11, 2019 in Sault Ste. Marie.
Born in Tillsonburg, Ontario on May 14, 1928, Phyllis was pre-deceased by her husband, Dr. Donald Duffin; her brother Robert Gaukrodger (Marion), Ipperwash; her son Thomas (Marlene), Toronto. She is survived by daughter Barbara Duffin-Bates (late Iain Bates) and Barbara’s partner Peter Eaton, Wolfville N.S.; daughter-in-law Marlene, son Michael (Shari), Ottawa; and best friend Allan Assels, Sault Ste. Marie; grandchildren Robin Bates (Lauren), Daniel Bates (Laura), Dennis Duffin, Jasmine Peers (Chris), Connor Duffin (Jessica Rose), Patrick Duffin (Jill), Kevin Duffin (Jennifer) and great-grandsons Elliott Peers and Malcolm Bates. She will be missed by many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Throughout her life, Phyl delighted us with the joie de vivre sparkling in her big blue eyes, her easy laugh and her unfailing support of her family. Among her many and varied interests were travelling, making music with Phyllis and Friends, playing bridge, and costume making. She was passionate about the local theatre, music and art scenes. Her fearlessness and enthusiasm for life has inspired each of us.
Dr. Apostle and the wonderful staff at the ARCH hospice gave Phyllis, her family and friends the opportunity to be together and say goodbye in a caring and warm environment.
Donations (payable by cheque) to ARCH in Phyllis’ name would be very much appreciated.
At Phyllis’ request, there will be no service. A private family internment will take place in Southern Ontario at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington St. E 705-759-2522).
