Pushups, pull ups, bench pressing, and …truck pulling?
Fitness enthusiasts spent their Saturday afternoon participating in these events as part of the Grand Opening for Gear Garage.
The supplement store/personal training gym, located at 120 White Oak Dr. E., was founded by Mike Della Penta, who told SaultOnline he thought the truck pull was a unique way to launch his business.
“The community doesn’t always have much for fitness stuff and I like to get everybody involved in the community as much as I can and show them that we have local sources here for supplements,” he said, “and that it’s for everybody to join – guys and girls alike.”
One of the participants in the truck pull was ONNtv’s Kevin Collar, who pulled the 8,000 lb Toyota Tundra 50 feet.
Collar, who’s been training for over a year to attempt something of this stature, said he feels amazing to know his training is paying off.
“A year and a half ago, I would never have been able to do this,” he said. “Without my trainer, none of this would have been possible.”
Collar credits part of his success to those around him who have supported him through his weight loss and training journey, such as Della Penta.
“It feels really nice for these types of athletes to welcome me into their fold,” he said. “A year and a half ago, I would’ve never been able to do something like this. I’m so proud of myself and am very happy to have friends like this.”
His advice? Just go for it.
“Focus on it; get it done. There is no try, there’s only do or do not. I never thought I’d be able to do this – I had doubts, I had fears, I had super high anxiety, right up until I pulled that truck. And as soon as I started moving it, it was gone and I focused my energy into that and I got it done.”
