Lucas Beaver back to Direct Andrew Lloyd Webber Production
In maybe the worst kept secret since Jon Snow came back from the dead, the Sault Ste. Marie Musical Comedy Guild is proud to announce Cats as their Fall 2019 show, taking place December 4-7 at the Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre at White Pines C&VI.
Based on ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’ by T.S. Eliot, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s on-stage adaptation takes a tumble through the feline world in a production that is one of the most popular Broadway shows in history. The Musical Comedy Guild production will be directed by Lucas Beaver (Mamma Mia, 9 to 5), with music director Rony Dal Cin (Mamma Mia, 9 to 5, Anne of Green Gables).
Sault Ste. Marie theatre goers reacted to the news Friday with a mix of relief and incredulity. “Well, after the cat eyes were posted on the Facebook page, we sort of had a feeling,” said one fan under the condition of anonymity, “but then I thought, are those snake eyes? Are they doing an on-stage version of Snakes on a Plane?” Another Facebook commenter responded to the news with a simple, “Meow (cat emoji, paw emoji, cat ears emoji).”
Humans looking to portray their feline counterparts are asked to attend a ‘Cats’ting call starting Sunday, July 21st. Aspiring actors will be asked to demonstrate their singing and dancing chops for the production team, featuring Beaver, Dal Cin, Producer Kim Smith-Bahry, and Choreographer Jen Avery. Details can be found on the Musical Comedy Guild website at www.musicalcomedyguild.com, and on their Facebook page.
Tickets for the show will be available soon at the KCTC box office and online.
