OPP search widens for two teen girls last seen camping in Algonquin Park

ALGONQUIN PARK, Ont. — Ontario Provincial Police say they are widening their search for two teenage girls who are missing after going on a camping trip in Algonquin Park.

Spokesman Bill Dickson says close to 100 people, including officers and volunteers, are searching the western area of the provincial park for the two 16-year-olds.

Police say the two campers were reported missing around 10 p.m. on Friday after failing to meet up with a group as planned.

They were last seen on Thursday on the Western Uplands Trail between Rainbow Lake and Susan Lake.

Police say Marta Malek and Maya Mirota, who are both from Kitchener, Ont., have a tent but limited camping supplies.

They say the air and ground search for the teens began on Saturday.
